I was going through the images while creating a few new KinderBunnies pages and noticed that "Sneaky Burglar" only uses the orange d10. It is the only KinderBunny card to specify only one color die - others call for all players to roll, but no colors are specified. I may not get a chance to create an .svg for the orange d10 until late next week, but I'll get to it if no one else does. -- [[User:Jkudlick|Jkudlick]] ([[User talk:Jkudlick|talk]]) 17:58, November 22, 2013 (UTC)

Forums: Index > Watercooler > Templates

We have enough templates around here that it’s difficult to remember them all. I’m working through getting them all added to Category:Killer Bunnies Templates or an appropriate subcategory, and listing them on Killer Bunnies Wiki:Templates. If you’re creating or editing an article, check the list and make sure it’s using the most specific template. Also, let me know if you have ideas for other things we might be able to do with templates, either adding features to existing templates or creating new ones.

misterhaan 16:48, December 21, 2011 (UTC)

Great! You have the template-fu skills. I was meaning to ask you to add a couple of fields to the Quest template, like PREV, NEXT, and DECK so a Wiki viewer can start at, say, the first card in a booster deck and iterate through the whole booster (continuing on to the next booster if desired). Of course, it'll take some work to go back and fix the existing cards, but all new ones should be created with the new features.

Is that implementable?

MagicCarrotAdmin 14:20, December 22, 2011 (UTC)

For cards like Containment Suit where there’s only one of it in the whole game we could do it, but cards like Area 51 where there are a handful of them I don’t see how we’d know if someone got to it as card 049 or 134. Would we have multiple prev / next / deck links in that case?

I had considered adding a link to the deck(s) a card was in — for that with the single cards the template can probably figure it out by checking which range the card ID fits into. Cards with more than one ID would need to be manual.

misterhaan 16:44, December 22, 2011 (UTC)

In the case you mention, couldn't we skip over the non-unique cards? For their first appearance, include them in the correct order. After that, jump to the next card for that deck.

On a different topic, for cards with multiple sets of artwork (anything non-unique has slight differences, but I'm mostly talking about the Chocolate Deck which released significantly different versions of the Omega, Psi, and Nu cards), is there a way to include all of the pictures for each card on one wiki page?

MagicCarrotAdmin 22:49, December 22, 2011 (UTC)

Only including it once in the sequence makes sense — let’s go with that. As for different images, how about an alternate card styles template we can include at the bottom of the page? I’m thinking a full-width display that shows cards images side by side possibly with a caption of “Card 577” or so. We could put the one used in the infobox at the top of the page down there too.

misterhaan 18:54, December 24, 2011 (UTC)

I created a Template:Card Image Variations template which shows up to 5 different card images, and used it on the Area 51 article. Let me know what you think (should it have a border with a background on the heading?) or if it needs to support more than 5 images.

misterhaan 21:21, December 30, 2011 (UTC)

The card with the most image variants has got to be the Choose a Carrot card, which has: 016, 017, 018, 019, 020, 121, 122, 171, 172, 226, 280, 281, 336, 337, 377, 391, 392, 446, 447, 501, 556, 557, 617, 0752, 0753 (25 cards, but only 5 or 6 variants, as I edited Choose a Carrot to show).

MagicCarrotAdmin 03:46, December 31, 2011 (UTC)

I updated the template to allow 6 variations, and tried listing the other IDs with the same image on Choose a Carrot — what do you think? I didn’t see images for 0752 or 0753 and I don’t have that deck so not sure if that’s a sixth variant or if it goes with the fifth.

I also adapted the cleanup template from Wikipedia so we can mark pages that need some work if we don't have time to get to it right away. I used it on a couple pages already, which get added to Category:Articles needing cleanup.

All your work looks very good. I've been trying to get content in so folks have something to edit (mostly complete) rather than starting from scratch, but I didn't scan a few of the cards, including the very end of the Chocolate Booster, so I'll get those scanned by this weekend (maybe sooner). Can the Quest Card template be modified as we discussed (add deck, prev, next? It'd be especially handy to have the deck set a category for a Deck so it is easy to see all of the cards in one deck--unless you have a superior idea?)

MagicCarrotAdmin 21:01, January 3, 2012 (UTC)

I’ve updated Quest Card with deck, prev, next. The more specific card templates still need to be updated to pass it through (I think), but you can see how it looks on Reversal of Fortune. I also documented {{Quest Card}} and set it up so you don’t need to include the File:/Image: or the .png for the image (but it works if you do). The deck category thing is working too. I’m just expecting to list one deck on each article, even for cards like Choose a Carrot which are included in multiple decks (that one would just list blue). I could add deck2, deck3, etc. if you think it would be useful to list all the decks that included a card.

misterhaan 23:09, January 3, 2012 (UTC)

The deck, prev, next all look good. You're right that the other templates need updating. At the same time, the only other feature that isn't handled in the templates are dice. It might be useful to add that before the cards are revisited to add the prev, next, and deck items. I can create any needed graphics for dice blocks. Let me know what needs to be created (if not using text) and I'll pull something together soon. I have the rest of the Chocolate Booster scanned, but I didn't upload those images yet.

MagicCarrotAdmin 17:10, January 4, 2012 (UTC)

I was hoping you could use a template that uses {{Quest Card}} and just set deck, prev, and next and have it see that, but that would have been too easy ;). I like the dice idea — maybe we could use small colored images of a pentagon with a 12 or a triangle with a 20, or for the zodiac die maybe a pentagon with a Z. Not sure what color to use for the clear one though. I added a dice option to Quest Card, but it just shows whatever text you enter. I’ll make a dice template we can use to list dice like {{Dice|Blue|Green|Orange}} that for now would just give “Blue, Green, Orange” but can be updated to use images later on.

misterhaan 19:53, January 4, 2012 (UTC)

I made some simple SVG die images and updated {{die}} (and therefore {{dice}} to use them. Went with the Pisces symbol for the Zodiac die. Now {{Dice|Blue|Green|Orange}} gives “D12 BlueD12 GreenD12 Orange

misterhaan 18:34, January 5, 2012 (UTC)

Is the pink die missing? Also, since a number of later cards reference the d10 Kinderbunnies dice, how are those to be handled? (see the Chocolate Booster for examples where pink and Kinderbunnies dice are used).

MagicCarrotAdmin 13:07, January 6, 2012 (UTC)

I didn’t do a pink die but I can — is it a d12? For Kinderbunnies I can try to make a d10 kite face with a 10. On kinderbunnies.com/rules.html it looks like there are 5 of them: violet, orange, green, yellow, and blue. Are they always all used together? If so, I’ll see about putting all 5 colors on the kite. This is my first time with SVG so it may take a while for me to figure out how to do something that’s not a regular polygon.

misterhaan 17:08, January 6, 2012 (UTC)

The pink die is a d12. "So far" all of the Kinderbunnies dice have been used together. Part of the reason is the Kinderbunnies mechanic is to roll all of the dice and match one number, presumably to make it easier for kids to play. However, with Conquest coming out, they've made a few changes that affect Quest, starting in the Chocolate Booster deck. Since Conquest is still quite new, they could decide to do anything with the Kinderbunnies dice. So, long story, but they have traditionally been used together, but I see no reason why that must always be so. I'm quite versed in Inkscape, so if you have any questions, feel free to pass them my way.

MagicCarrotAdmin 19:23, January 6, 2012 (UTC)

I uploaded a single Kinder dice icon (used overlapping diamonds to represent the Kinderbunnies dice) (see if you like it) and a D12 Pink die. Additionally, in completing the Ominous Onyx deck, it appears to me that we need additional templates for Mysterious Places and Rank cards. The generic template is an awkward fit.

MagicCarrotAdmin 12:16, January 7, 2012 (UTC)

The overlapping probably does a better job of showing that there are 5 dice than what I was thinking — thanks for making that! I updated {{Die}} to use the new dice icons and update {{Dice}} to show as many as 11 dice since we now have 11 icons.

I’ll take a look at the Mysterious Places and Rank cards and see about making them a template, unless you want to give it a try.

misterhaan 15:40, January 7, 2012 (UTC)

I'm up for trying my hand at creating templates. I don't know how. When I created the original Quest one it was dumb luck along with a few resources that I've since lost. I never understood how to create the /doc version, so if you can mentor, I'm all ears.

MagicCarrotAdmin 00:07, January 8, 2012 (UTC)

All the card infobox templates are based off {{Quest Card}} — you basically create a more specific one by editing Template:Some New Card Type and bring in Quest Card like you would on a normal page. For the properties that are the same for all cards, you can fill those in with normal text (generally type and aggressive at minimum can be handled this way). For the properties that change, you can either just have the new template accept the same value (looks like |deck = , or if you expect the value to always be entered you can do |deck = {{{deck}}}), or build the value. {{Bunny Card Normal}} builds the name from color and type like this: |name = {{{color}}} {{{type}}} Bunny, for example. Some of the card templates also bring in a description and interactions — you can do that like you would for a normal article if you want it the same for every article using the template (plus optional additions). I made some of them a little more complicated, like {{Weapon Card}} has some logic that figures out if it’s the black or clear die based on the weapon level, and Bunny Card Normal brings in lists of the other same-color or same-type bunnies when it talks about triplets.

As for /doc, just put <noinclude>{{documentation}}</noinclude> at the end of the template and it will bring in empty documentation with a link to the /doc page. Create that page to document the template. See how far you get with that and feel free to look at existing templates or ask me more questions.

misterhaan 17:28, January 8, 2012 (UTC)

I’ve updated {{Weapon Card}} to have an optional description override for weapons like C.O.M.A. (non-lethal) and 7th Whisk (different die rolling rules) that shouldn’t use the default description. If the default description is still true but incomplete (like area effect weapons) I just add another paragraph beneath the template.

I think all the card templates have been updated to use dice, deck, prev, and next if applicable. Let me know if I missed any. {{Zodiac Card}} is a little weird since it already had prev and next, but all but the first and last zodiac card's prev and next were actually the name of the prev/next card, so I just added prevcard and nextcard to use when it’s different and only had to edit 2 zodiac card pages (they're all in the green booster and don't use dice).

Let me know if you have any questions on Mysterious Place or Rank templates, or if you want me to create them.

misterhaan 20:58, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

I created a template for the Mysterious Place cards as I was creating the pages for all the Fan Deck cards. If the Rank template hasn't been created yet, I'll work on that, but right now it's time for me to log off and go home. -- Jkudlick (talk) 23:08, November 5, 2013 (UTC)

Template:Rank Card is complete. w00T!!! -- Jkudlick (talk) 12:21, November 6, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks! I added the Rank Card template to the template list. Good to see more content getting added to the wiki — thanks for your help!
